Forkin Wedding

When you are little, it’s almost inevitable that at some point, you will play wedding with your friends and/or siblings. I did this often will all kinds of combinations of friends and family members, all of us playing every role imaginable. It is so special when something you played as a kid actually happens many years later.

My best friend since 4th grade asked me to be her Maid of Honor and of course I wanted to do the flowers. It was even better because of the month she chose for her big day - the end of May! May is my favorite month for flowers. I knew I would have some of my very own flowers to include in the design.

{I am attractively and photogenically pictured on the left of the bride, making faces at our other dear friend as usual.}

We talked a lot about colors, bouquet shapes and what element she wanted for the ceremony and reception. She chose light pink as her main color and I knew it would be so beautiful against the backdrop of the venue - her childhood home. Her house was my absolute favorite to go to growing up - and still is. Tucked away off a beautiful country road, their house was built in the mid 1900s. The property backs up to a nature preserve where hikers frequently wander into their yard after getting lost on the trail. Her dad did so much work to get their property flat, fenced and landscaped for the wedding.

As the week approached , it was clear there would be rain. We were hopeful it would pass and made a backup plan for a tent ceremony. I pulled my Finola tulips I had dry stored for a few weeks out of storage and they looked amazing. I finally got to designing. I tucked some Orlaya and Larkspur from the field into aisle pieces, bouquets and bud vases. My dear friend and fellow bridesmaid helped fill bud vases the day before. I love when people I love get to play a role in the design.

The day came and it was clear the rain would RSVPing yes and so my dear friend Dani, who was helping out day of, helped tweak the ceremony floral plan and made it beautiful while I got ready with the wedding party. The storm ended up being so bad we lost power (luckily after we had finished getting all ready!). The rain stopped just in time for the ceremony and the rest of the evening was perfect. It was one of the most special days. It has been almost 3 years since and I still remember every detail.

Thank you for walking down memory lane with me!
